Nancy B. Fortin, 82, of East Windsor, CT passed away on April 20, 2016. She was born on June 17, 1934, in Hartford, CT to the late James Groskritz and Alice Wyse Groskritz Jovino. Nancy was well known in communities far and wide, as The Lady in Red and The Bike Lady. She was truly loved, cared for, and watched over by the entire East Windsor and surrounding communities, and she truly loved “her” town and all the wonderful people in it. She will be greatly missed by all those who have befriended her throughout her life, in her small little wonderful, compassionate town of East Windsor. Nancy loved the outdoors, and often spent sun-up to sun-down outside riding her bike, gardening, walking and meeting and talking with everyone she encounters.
She is survived by her six children, David Joseph and his wife Valencia; Danny Joseph and his wife Cary; Laurie Stanley; Jackie Fortin; Paul Fortin and his wife Darlene; Candy Sosnicki and her husband Joseph; 4 grandchildren, Emmalee Bloomfield; Carl Joseph; David Nicholson; and Cassandra Callender; and a great grandchild Attila Bloomfield. She also leaves her beloved sister Peggy French, of East Windsor. She was predeceased by her brother, Joseph Jovino.
Services will be private among her children and immediate family. In lieu of flowers and cards, please tie a red ribbon on your mailbox, tree, or front door, in memory of our dear mom - The Lady in Red. For online condolences please visit: www.pietrasfuneralhome.com. We would like to mention that East Windsor Parks and Recreation, in partnership with other town departments, will be hosting a Lady in Red bench dedication in honor of Nancy. The bench will honor Nancy and be a place for all to celebrate her life for many years to come. A date and time has yet to be determined.
