Obituary for Betty M. Miles

Betty M. (nee Hutchins) Miles, 88, of South Windham, Connecticut, passed away peacefully at
her home, Thursday, July 21, 2016, surrounded by her devoted family.

Born July 9, 1928, in Rutland, Vermont, the daughter of Mary (Johnston) and Albert
Hutchins, Betty was raised in Benson and Proctor, Vermont and in her heart always resided there.

A graduate of Proctor High School, she continued her education graduating from the
Henry W. Putnam Memorial Hospital School of Nursing in Bennington, Vermont.

During her career, Betty excelled at many care giver roles; she retired from Windham Hospital in 1996.

Betty was a past member of several Masonic fraternal organizations, a member of the Auxiliary
to Windham Hospital, a 47 year member of the First Congregational Church of South
Windham, and most recently, a member of the First Congregational Church of Willimantic.

She was predeceased by her parents, her step-father Henry Frappier, her siblings Yvonne (Hutchins) Hosking and Robert Hutchins, her nephew Edward Hutchins and her husbands: Raymond J. Maynard, Kenneth L. Tatro and Earle B. Miles.

She is survived by her children, daughter Michele and son-in-law Robert Maclure, son Shawn
Maynard and his partner Jorge Nieves, and daughter Jill and daughter-in-law Phyllis Moroch.
She is also survived by her grandchildren, Melissa (Maclure) and husband Todd Strickett,
Kevin Howell, and Rebecca (Maclure) and husband Ryan Rose. Her great-grandchildren, who were the joys of her heart, Kolby Palmisano-Strickett, Sofia Strickett and Maxx Strickett. Her
Godchildren, great-nephew Christopher Fanelli, and Lori Brown. Also, her grandchildren “in her heart” Jonathan Masters and Sarah Masters Walsh, MD, her “other son” of thirty-six years, Thomas Platt, and her dear friend of over forty-five years, Georgia Mayhew, whose unwavering friendship remained steadfast, though hundreds of miles separated them. She is also survived by numerous loving cousins, nieces, nephews and a host of friends.

Betty’s family would like to acknowledge and thank her caregivers for the past 10 months, Fatoumata Jallow, Valda LeMasurier, and Laura Madden.

Her family will welcome friends and family, Friday, July 29, 2016, 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at
the Tolland Memorial Funeral Home 375 Merrow Road (Route 195) Tolland, Connecticut.

A funeral service will be held Saturday July 30, 2016, 10:00 a.m. at the First Congregational
Church of Willimantic 199 Valley Street Willimantic, Connecticut, with internment to follow at the
Windham Center Cemetery.
