Gerald “Jerry” Joseph Marquis, 89, of North Port, FL, entered into eternal rest on Friday, January 6, 2017, at his home, surrounded by his loving family. He was born on September 21, 1927, in Hartford, CT, to the late Delphis and Marie Dube Marquis. He moved to North Port, FL, in 1986, from the Vernon, CT area.
Jerry is predeceased by his wife, Patricia (Dailey) Marquis; daughter, Suzanne Marquis; son, Thomas Marquis; grandson, Adam Szychowski; and nine brothers and sisters: Rhea Breton, Jean Desjardins, Gilberta Deforge, Isabel Gaskil, Imelda Jaser, Elaine Berube, John Marquis, Joseph Marquis, and Norman Marquis.
Jerry is survived by his daughters, Donna (Fred) Cox of Venice, FL; Barbara Marquis (Lenny Riccio) of Englewood, FL; and Deborah Marquis of North Port, FL; son, John (Kristy) Marquis of Marlborough, CT; daughter-in-law Nance Marquis of Germantown, TN; grandchildren Tara (Ron) Spielman, James (Marivee) Jerome, Gerald (Lindsey) Marquis, Albert Douglas Honegan, Christopher (Shaunna) Marquis, Andre Szychowski, Catherine (Maxime) Lebouteiller, and Avery Marquis; great-grandchildren Shannon, Max, Isabel, Ana, Leo, Nora, Aubrey, and Kora; brother-in-law John T. Jaser; sisters-in-law Janet Marquis, Lorraine Dailey, Margaret Johnson, Katie Dailey; and many nephews and nieces. He was a kind and gentle person who will be greatly missed by all who knew him.
Before retiring, Jerry was employed by the US Post Office in Hartford for 30 years and retired as a tour superintendent. He also took special pride and pleasure in owning the Vernon Bike Shop. In addition to being a family man, he will be remembered for his love of the outdoors, bird-watching and wood carving.
Relatives and friends are welcome to join the family from 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm on Friday, January 13, 2017, at the Burke-Fortin Funeral Home, 76 Prospect St., Rockville, CT 06066. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 9:00 am on Saturday, January 14, 2016 at St. Bernard’s Church, 25 St. Bernard Terrace, Rockville. Burial will follow at St. Bernard’s Cemetery, Rockville.
