Patricia Arlene (McLoughlin) Putman (79)

Pat was born 11/24/1937 to Anna Marie (Svotelis) and Daniel Joseph McLoughlin. She was born in the French Hospital of Manhattan at West 29th Street. Pat weighed just 4 lbs and 9 ounces at birth. Pat’s mother was from Lithuania and her father from Ireland.

The McLoughlins lived on Amsterdam Avenue in NYC until 1947 when those tenements were razed to make way for the Lincoln Center. The McLoughlins were relocated close by to 210 West 64th Street. Pat attended Catholic elementary school and Catholic high school. The McLoughlin family members were parishioners of St. Paul the Apostle Church on West 59th Street in Manhattan.

From 1955 to 1958 Pat pursued a degree in Chemistry at Mt. Saint Vincent College in Yonkers, NY.

In 1958 she married a soldier, Edward Lee Putman, who was born and raised in South Dakota. Their wedding was performed at St. Paul the Apostle Church on 8/7/1958.

With three months left to serve in the army, Pat and Ed lived near Camp McCoy, Wisconsin and Ft. Reilly, Kansas. From Kansas they moved to Rapid City, South Dakota for a year.

In October of 1959 the Putmans, including their 5 month old son, moved to Rockville, CT and have lived there ever since. In 1963 Pat completed her degree in chemistry at the University of Connecticut at Storrs. Notably Pat gave birth to her third child between final exams and graduation ceremonies. She worked thereafter for many years in the laboratory at Storrs Family Medicine.

Pat’s 6 children and her in-laws are: Hans Putman (deceased)/Antonia Tyz Peeples, Brendan Putman/Darline Putman (deceased), Daniel Putman/Susan Putman, Leanna Putman/Tom Fournier, Shannon Putman Dzat/Raymond Dzat and Mary Angel Putman. Mary Angel was born still and lies at the site in St. Bernard Cemetery where Pat will be buried.

Pat has 11 grandchildren and 2 great grandchildren. One of her grandchildren, Alanna Dzat, also lies in St. Bernard Cemetery.

Pat died in her sleep in the early morning hours of 2/4/2017. She had been bedridden at home for several days before that under the care of her husband and children whom she loved so dearly. Pat never once in those days of slipping away ever complained of pain. Perhaps that could have been expected from a woman who chose to have her fifth child at home without a midwife.

The family was supported expertly at home in her last days by Hospice and cared for, again professionally, a few days before that by Manchester Hospital staff.

Relatives and friends may join the family on Friday, February 10, 2017 from 5-7 PM at the Small & Pietras Funeral Home, 65 Elm St., Rockville. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10 am on Saturday, February 11, 2017 at St. Bernard’s Church, Rockville. Burial will follow at St. Bernard’s Cemetery, Vernon.
