Obituary for Henry Edward Chartier

Beloved husband and best friend of Joan (Hensel) Chartier, entered into the arms of God surrounded by his family on the morning of Thursday, June 15th, 2017. Henry was born in Hartford, Connecticut on August 4th, 1936. He was predeceased by his mother, Helen (Rhines) Chartier,his father, Alfred Chartier, and four brothers, Gilbert, Richard, Robert and Phillip Chartier. He leaves his sister, Rita Flebeau of Broad Brook, his brothers, Bill Chartier and his wife, Elaine, of Plainville, and John Chartier of Enfield. Henry also leaves his children, Brian Chartier of Broad Brook, Diane Towers and her husband David of South Carolina and Doreen Ryan and her fiancé, Peter Collins,of Broad Brook who all will miss him dearly.

Henry’s extended family include his grand-children, Amanda Olds, Dan and Nick Chartier, Owen Ryan and two great grand-children along with many nieces and nephews. Very close to Henry were his in laws, Richard and Linda Hensel, and Mark and Mary Ann Simmons. Close friends, who Henry considered part of his family, include Joyce and Rick Boucher, their son Dustin, Sheila Sharos, Sandy and Tom Mara, Bob and Linda Ryan, Billy Sliger and Joyce Littlefield. Henry’s family, his many close friends and those who were fortunate to know him will fondly remember Henry’s ever ready sense of humor, generosity and kind spirit. Henry grew up in Hartford, Connecticut, and moved to Broad Brook where he and Joan made their home and many memories for the next 56 years. He served as a member of the Army National Guard and, as a tribute to Henry’s work ethic, he only recently retired from ABC Supply Co. in Berlin, Connecticut, after many years of dedicated service. He was also a life member of the German Club and the East Windsor Society for the Detection of Thieves and Robbers. There will be no visitation, however, a funeral mass service will be held at St. Catherine Church on 6 Windsorville Road in Broad Brook on Friday, June 23rd, 2017,at 10:00 A.M.
