Obituary for Laura K. Hobbs

Laura Lee (Karlson) Hobbs, 70, of Coventry, beloved wife of Philip N. Hobbs, Jr., died July 24, 2017, at Manchester Memorial Hospital. Laura (or “Laurie,” as she was known to her family) was born in Hartford, Connecticut, on June 8, 1947, daughter of the late Karl M. and Lois (Kernic)Karlson. She grew up in East Hartford as well as spending a couple of years with her family in San Diego. She was a 1965 graduate of East Hartford High School and later earned her associates degree in business administration at Manchester Community College. On November 6, 1965, she married Philip, who was her blind date to her senior prom. In early 1967, she and Philip moved to Coventry into the house they built together, and there they raised their family. Laura was employed as an account administrator by The Travelers Insurance Company in Hartford until her retirement in 2012. Laura enjoyed camping with her husband in Vermont where they kept their recreational vehicle for the past 10 years and visiting with friends at their campground. Laura was a very active member of Second Congregational Church for the past 20 years. She was a member of various committees and especially enjoyed the Gleaners and volunteering her time at Noah’s Closet. Laura also enjoyed shopping, traveling, but most importantly, Laura loved spending time with her family and her five grandchildren who will miss her dearly. Besides her husband of almost 52 years, she is survived by her daughter Barbara Wilson of Hebron and her husband Timothy and their children, Jillian, Kelly, and Timothy Jr., and her daughter Kristine Anderman of East Hampton and her husband Robert and their children, Kaitlyn and William. She is predeceased by her parents, brother, Russell Karlson, and son, William. The family wishes to thank the medical staff at Manchester Memorial Hospital for their care and compassion during these past two weeks. Relatives and friends may join the family on Friday, July 28, 2017 between 4pm-6pm at the Coventry-Pietras Funeral Home, 2665 Boston Turnpike, Coventry. A Church service will be held on Saturday, July 29, 2017 at 10:30 am at the Second Congregational Church, 1746 Boston Turnpike, Coventry. Burial will follow at Center Cemetery in Coventry.
