Richard “Dick” Bastis, 74, of Salem, CT, and Palmetto, FL, loving husband of 51 years to Kelsie (Houghton) Bastis, passed away on Tuesday, September 26, 2017, at Hartford Hospital, while surrounded by his wife and two daughters. Richard was born December 25, 1942, in Boston, MA to the late Joseph and Helen (Bennett) Bastis. He proudly served his country in the US Navy and later moved to CT where he was married in 1965. Richard retired in 2005 from Manchester Carbide as a Machinist and Foreman after 40 years. Richard had a passion for boating, the lake, horseshoes and spending time with family and friends. Despite his recent health challenges, he was always upbeat and persevered until the end. Along with his beloved wife Kelsie, Richard is survived by his daughters, Michele Smith and her husband James Smith of Glastonbury and Kelly Ann Pabilonia and her husband James Pabilonia of Tolland. He also leaves four grandsons, Brett and Keane Smith, Joshua and Kendrick Pabilonia; and many wonderful friends and extended family. Relatives and friends may join the family on Friday, September 29, 2017 between 3pm-6pm with a Funeral Home Service at 6pm at the Coventry-Pietras Funeral Home, 2665 Boston Tpke., Coventry, CT.
