Obituary for Charles Richard Hare

Charles Richard Hare
Charles R. Hare (Charlie), age 68, went home to the arms of God on Sunday, October 15, 2017. He would NOT want a typical obituary – being a bit of a non-conformist himself – he would be grimacing at the thought of it. So, we will honor his truth by telling his story a little differently.

He was a jovial, fun-loving soul who loved a good pun and a belly-jiggling chuckle. He had an uncanny gift for ‘good-hearted gab’, dropping food on his shirts (giggle), and a strong passion for music and writing. He wrote many song lyrics and tunes, some that he had the honor of providing for weddings, anniversaries, and other special occasions for loved ones. One of his beloved songs,“Days of Sunshine”, even went on to be performed live in concert in the Netherlands by a few vocal artists and a full orchestra. He was so tickled that someone actually liked his creation! Always a humble man about his musical skills… sigh…
His existence was rooted in his love for God. As he was falling asleep at night, he would do what he called his ‘Alphabet Prayer’. For each letter of the alphabet, he’d come up with a word defining what God meant to him. Such as “A for admirable, B for benevolent, C for caring, D for Divine”… and so it went. His strength came from knowing God’s mercy, and trusting in His limitless compassion. God was his rock.
“The Lord is my rock, and my fortress, and my deliverer; my God, my strength, in whom I will trust…” (Psalm 18:2)
Ok… for a little formality now (sorry Dad!)… Charliewas born on March 31, 1949 in Sutton, MA to Richard and Ruth (Clemence) Hare, as the second to youngest of 8 children. He shared his prankster antics and endless silliness with his loving siblings: Bob, Marilyn, Carolyn, Beverly, David, Ginny and Tim.He graduated from Sutton High in 1967. He then went on to become an apprentice at Pratt & Whitney in East Hartford, CT in 1967, devoting nearly 40 years of his life there, finishing his role as a Project Planner/Estimator in 2006. After his retirement, he dove headfirst into blog writing – always eager to research and educate others on random topics, or uplift a heart with inspirational quotes and memes. That mind was FULL of ideas and perspectives!

When he first laid eyes on the love of his life, Marjorie A. Holmes, at the bold age of 10 (when his oldest brother, Bob, married her oldest sister, Maribelle), he told her he was going to marry her. It was a match made in heaven… and a short 9 years later… he joined his life with hers on October 19, 1968. They were 4 days shy of celebrating 49 years together.
He raised 3 adoring daughters: Tracey (Haddock), Trina, and Tanessa (Celentano), became a father-in-law to 2 incredibly daring men – Tim Haddock and John Celentano, was a grandfather to 2 amazing gifts – Samara and Braden Haddock, step-grandfather to 2 wonderful additions – Kayla (Lopata) and Josh Celentano, and a step-great-grandfather to precious twins – Caiden and Kinsley Lopata (along with MANY fur-babies and fur-grandbabies). His antics and silliness thrived in his fathering and grandfathering roles; always one for a good slide down a snowy backyard hill or an eye-twinkling, child-frustrating attempt at beating him in a game of Boggle or Scrabble. He loved to tease and jest, but was just as sensitive and mindful of not offending or insulting others. He never wanted to cause hurt… from the smallest flea to the biggest tree. He had a deep love in his heart for all God’s creatures, and will be incredibly missed by his little kitties, Maisy-Mae and Mattie, and his countless birds, squirrels and other wildlife that relied on his huge heart for their well-being.
He leaves a chasm in the hearts of many (many!!) in-laws, cousins, nieces and nephews. And an endless list of hearts he has touched along his path.
Sadly, he was preceded in death by his parents, his brother Bob, and his sister Beverly… and several other loved ones. We find comfort in knowing their souls have been reunited now.
His love-filled services will be held on Saturday, 10/21/17 @ the UConn Alumni Center, 2384 Alumni Drive, Storrs, CT. Service will commence @ 10:00am.
In lieu of flowers, Charlie would probably prefer if you donated to any local animal shelter of your choice, or helped another soul in need… in any way you can (money is not always what’s needed!). He’d want you to look for ways to pay it forward and opportunities to help spread love.
He saw things in a different way and loved from a deeper place, and for this – we are eternally grateful to have been blessed with his light. Look for the sunshine! He’ll be there…

Days of Sunshine
Every day, when the sun comes grinning,
It's like a fresh and new beginning...
don't you think?
Hear... the distant churchbells ringing,
hear... the birds outside are singing
and flowers in the garden seem to wink.
In our wondrous view, all fresh and new,
and everywhere with early morning dew...
can we see?
Look, the blossoms open slowly
See the magic in the lowly
a simple humble, solo bumble bee
Be awake, my soul, to each morning's role
Embrace it, set the goals... it's ours anew!

Stand... with grounded feet so steady
take the helm, let's be ready
March toward the day with all we do!

Do we come to know, as the crafty crow
What purpose, ours to grow...
or will we learn?
Mark... the simple truths around,
note the promises abound,
Days of sunshine evermore return,
days of sunshine evermore return.
