Obituary for Theresa Mary-Louise Sonier

Theresa “Terry” Marie Sonier, formerly of Rockville, CT, died Wednesday, October 25, at Charlene Manor Extended Care Facility in Greenfield, MA. She was 93 years old. Born in Woonsocket, RI, on March 21, 1924, she was the daughter of Napoleon and Rosalie (Lamoureaux) Armstrong. Terry was very proud of her French Canadian heritage. Growing up during the Great Depression in Woonsocket, RI, she was not afforded the opportunity to attend high school and worked in a textile mill and a boot factory in Woonsocket to help support her family as a teenager and young adult. Terry married Bertrand Sonier in Precious Blood Church in Woonsocket, RI, on July 5, 1952, and they moved to Rockville, CT, soon after. She was a resident of Rockville for 55 years, where she was a homemaker and raised her two sons, Paul and Roger. She was a communicant of St. Bernard’s Church in Rockville. Terry enjoyed hiking, duck-pin bowling, reading, her pet cats, playing bingo, going out to eat, spending time with her family, and traveling. She visited many places around the world, including France, Germany, China, Russia, Hong Kong, Fiji, Australia, England, Scotland, Canada, the Czech Republic, the Netherlands, Italy, and Belgium. Terry was predeceased by her parents, her husband, Bertrand, in 1990, and her older sister, Lena Lemieux, in 2009. She is survived by her son Paul Sonier, son Roger Sonier, daughter-in-law Karen Sonier, and her two grandchildren, Melissa and Mark Sonier, all of South Deerfield. There will be a calling hour at 10 a.m. on Sunday, October 29, 2017 at the Small & Pietras Funeral Home, 65 Elm Street, Rockville, CT. A service will follow at 11 a.m. at the funeral home. Burial will take place on Saturday, November 4, 2017 at 11 a.m. at St. Bernard’s Cemetery in Rockville.
