Obituary for Gordon Kenneth Lohnes

Gordon Kenneth Lohnes, 91, of Vernon, beloved husband of Ellen G. (Benjamin) Lohnes passed away Friday, June 1, 2018. He was born February 11, 1927 in Hartford, the son of the late Veronica (Cosgrove) Lohnes. He served in the U.S. Army during the Korean Conflict and was stationed in Germany. He was an inspector at Pratt & Whitney for 14 years and was a bell captain at the Hartford Hilton chain for 20 years. He retired at the age of 79 as a security officer for the Institute of Living/Hartford Hospital. He was formerly a member of the American Legion in Vernon and the VFW in Manchester. He loved his grandchildren dearly. He enjoyed visits to Disney with his family and grandchildren. He enjoyed watching his grandchildren in all their church, school and sport activities, as well as specific hobbies with Rebekah and Isaac. He also enjoyed traveling and was an avid Red Sox and New England Patriots fan. Besides his loving wife of 63 years, he is survived by his son, Stephen G. Lohnes and his wife Linda M. Lohnes of South Windsor, formerly of Manchester; his grandchildren, Rebekah E. Lohnes and Isaac G. Lohnes; his sister-in-law, Rose Lohnes, and his four nieces and three nephews and their families. He was predeceased by his younger brother, Earl Lohnes and his younger sister, Mary L. Fortin. Relatives and friends are welcome to join the family from 5 to 7 PM on Wednesday, June 6, 2018 at the Burke-Fortin Funeral Home, 76 Prospect St., Rockville, CT 06066. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 AM on Thursday, June 7, 2018 at St. Luke’s Church, 141 Maple St. Ellington, CT 06029. Burial will follow at Mt. St. Benedict Cemetery, Bloomfield.
