Mary Kathryn (Strohm) Clements, 73, of Ellington, passed away peacefully on Saturday, September 1, 2018. Born August 12, 1945 in Delaware, Ohio to Martha (Poling) and Francis Strohm, Mary graduated from St. Mary’s High School in 1963. She graduated from Ohio Wesleyan University with a degree in Elementary Education in 1967. She moved to Boston, MA shortly after graduating from college and worked in the office of the Attorney General of Massachusetts.

Mary married Bob Clements in 1974, living in Burlington, MA before moving to Ellington in 1980. She worked as an insurance agent for many years, serving as personal lines manager for Urbanetti Insurance and Brown & Brown Insurance of CT. She retired in 2012.

Mary served for more than 20 years in Ellington town offices (Library Board of Trustees and Board of Education). She was a dedicated parishioner of St. Bernard Church in Rockville, and in her retirement was an active member of the Women’s Guild and Prayer Shawl group. Mary also loved exploring outdoors with the Ellington Recreation Department Hiking Club. She was an avid reader, crossword puzzler, counted-cross-stitcher, and knitter. She also loved watching the UConn Huskies women’s basketball team.

Mary is survived by her daughter Julie Schineller, son-in-law Ben, and granddaughter Caroline of Weymouth, MA. She is predeceased by her husband of 42 years, Robert (Bob) Clements.

Her family will receive friends on Friday, September 7, 2018 between 5-7pm at the Burke-Fortin Funeral Home, 76 Prospect Street, Rockville. A Mass of Christian Burial will take place at St. Bernard Church, 25 St. Bernard’s Terrace, Vernon, at 10am on Saturday, September 8, 2018 followed by a procession to St. Bernard Cemetery in Vernon.
