Obituary for Robert Joseph King

Robert Joseph King, craftsman, sportsman and lifelong resident of Rockville, died quietly at home midday on Sunday, October 7, 2018. He was born to Ivan and Rose King of Rockville on October 16, 1925 and educated at St. Bernard’s School. By 1944, he had completed his training in cabinetry and carpentry at Cheney Tech in Manchester and subsequently served in the Army Air Corps until the end of the war. From 1949 to 1987, he was employed by the First National Stores construction department, working all over New England. He was a faithful communicant of St. Bernard’s Church. Throughout his life, he enjoyed the pleasures of field and stream (and ocean), loves he was able to pursue well into his 8th decade. His love, example and guidance will be sorely missed by his family. He was predeceased by his first wife, Rose, the mother of his four sons. They remained happily married until her death in 1988. He is survived by his wife, Phyllis (Chappell) King; his four sons, Robert James King of Hebron, Donald Edward King and his wife Mary, and David Alan King and his wife Cathy all of Stowe, VT, and Richard John King and his wife Teal of Lebanon; his brother, Francis King of Necedah, Wisconsin; his sister, Elaine King of Wilbraham, MA; six grandchildren, Michael King of Burlington, VT, Sam King of Somerville, MA, Max King of Boston, MA, Jeff King of Portland, OR, Krista King of Saratoga, NY, and Alex King of Enfield; and one great grandson, Nello. Relatives and friends are welcome to join the family from 2 to 4 PM and 6 to 8 PM on Thursday, October 11, 2018 at the Burke-Fortin Funeral Home, 76 Prospect St., Rockville, CT 06066. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10 AM on Friday, October 12, 2018 at St. Bernard’s Church, 25 St. Bernard Terrace, Rockville. Burial will follow at St. Bernard’s Cemetery, Rockville.
