Mary Jane Upton (Gilman), 76, daughter of Edward & Lillian Gilman, is now with God after a long battle with Cancer. She passed at her home in North Port, Florida on Saturday, April 13, 2013--surrounded by her husband, Son Michael, Daughter –in-law Darla and Daughter Cheryl. Mary Jane, or MJ as many know her, was born and raised in Stafford Springs, CT. She married her true love and best friend, Robert, on September 20, 1958. After thirty plus years as a managerial professional for Upton Construction in Mansfield, CT, and two years as the Lady President of the Palmetto, FL Elks, she retired with her husband, Robert; eventually splitting residence in North Port, FL and Murphy, NC. Mary and Robert enjoyed their time together exploring the country, spending time with family and friends and living life in a passionate, meaningful demeanor. Mary Jane enjoyed reading, crocheting, cooking, exploring, music, spending time with her sisters, family and friends. Mary was a passionate fan of the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. She spent the last few years traveling with Robert, visiting many glorious sites across the United States, camping on Lake Nottley in Georgia, enjoying the serene Smokey Mountains at their home in North Carolina, and spending the warm winters at their home in Florida. She lived her life, loved her family, and enjoyed her friends with genuine passion. Mary Jane was accepting of everyone she met. Her radiant smile and subtle laughter could light up a room in a moment. She was endeared by all and will be remembered by many. She is survived by her adoring husband and best friend, Robert Upton; son Robert Upton, Jr. (Ann), Coventry, CT; Daughter Cheryl Upton, Willimantic, CT; Daughter Kimberly Upton, CT; and Son Michael Upton (Darla), Punta Gorda, FL; sisters Eleanor, Carol, Laura, and Patricia, many grandchildren, cousins, nieces, nephews, relatives, and friends whom she loved and adored dearly. She will be joining her parents and sister, Beth Ann Gilman, in Heaven. Relatives and friends are welcome to join the family on Wednesday, April 17, 2013 from 4 to 6 PM at the Coventry Pietras Funeral Home, 2665 Boston Tpke, (Route 44), Coventry, CT. A Funeral Home service will be held on Thursday, April 18, 2013 at 10 AM at the Coventry-Pietras Funeral Home. Burial will follow at St. Mary’s Cemetery, Coventry, CT.
