Obituary for Marie F. Vassilopoulos (Marsella)

Marie (Marsella) Vassilopoulos, 85, joined in heaven her husband of 53 years, Charles Vassilopoulos, the love and light her life; her father, Paul Marsella; her mother, Florence (Murphy) Marsella; her grandmother, Maria; her brother Anthony and her step-mother Elena (Santinella) Marsella, people she always remembered dearly. She was born in Providence, Rhode Island October 16, 1930. She resided in Rockville for 61 years. Marie loved taking care of her family especially cooking for them. Her culinary skills were enjoyed not only by her family but by all who knew her. She was a loving mother to three sons, Dr. Charles A. Vassilopoulos of Rocky Hill; William Vassilopoulos of Westfield, MA; Arthur Vassilopoulos and his wife, Lisa, of Ellington; and to her daughter, Mary A. Rein and her husband, Todd, of Ellington. She was blessed with 13 grandchildren who were her greatest joy and their spouses: Jenica Getto and her husband Chris, Andrew Rein & Lauren Hayes, Nicholas Vassilopoulos and his wife Emily, Chelsea Lowe and her husband Ryan, Calla Vassilopoulos, Megan Mindek and her husband Stephen, Maria Rein, Melanie Hlasny and her husband Matt, Anthony Rein, Margaret Vassilopoulos, Charles Vassilopoulos, Christopher Vassilopoulos, and Kathryn Vassilopoulos. She had nine great-grandchildren that she adored, Marie, Nicholas, Luke, Gavin, Madelyn, Carter, Blake, Alexandra and Nora. Marie is also survived by two brothers, Julio Marsella and his wife, Anna; John Marsella; and a sister, Pauline Crowe and her husband, Edward.She is also survived by her brother-in-law, Peter Vassilopoulos and his wife Stella. Marie’s family was everything to her and they will miss her immensely. Relatives and Friends may join the family for calling hours at 5-7 p.m. on Friday, October 30, 2015 at the Burke - Fortin Funeral Home 76 Prospect Street Vernon. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, October 31 at St. Joseph’s Church, Rockville, CT. Burial will be in St. Bernard’s Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Missionaries of Charity, the Felician Sisters of Enfield or St. Joseph Church in Rockville, all of which were dear to her heart.
