Obituary for Maris Iversen

Maris Iversen
Maris R. Iversen passed to be with the Lord on October 16th surrounded by family and friends at home. She was 98. Maris was born June 14th 1918 in New London Ct to the late Earl Attwood Ransom and the late Helen Crandall Ransom. She was the wife of the late Robert Dana Iversen. She is survived by her son Dana Earl Iversen and his wife Lauren Elizabeth Iversen, her daughter Victoria Ellen Iversen, granddaughter Dana E Lewis, her husband Justin Lewis and great-grandson Chase Jordan Lewis. Maris grew up in Woodstock Vermont where she graduated high school. She went to Green Mountain Junior College and then went to Massachusetts School of Art. From 1936 to 1941. Maris then joined the Navy in 1943 as an Aviation Machinist Mate assembling air craft instruments for the war effort. Maris served until 1945. She then continued her education at Boston University and then on to University of New Mexico to complete her Master’s degree in Art. Maris taught Art at Burlington Vt. High School for 3 years where she met her husband Robert. They were married in December of 1950. Maris and Robert moved to Ct. in 1958 and she taught Art at Bennet Jr. High starting in 1961 and retiring in 1981. After retirement Maris and Robert spent most of their time camping and attending Revolutionary reenactment festivities until Robert’s death in 1998. Maris then joined the Waves National Unit, the Mayflower Society, the Colonial Dames, the D.A.R., the A.D.K. Gamma and the Tolland County Art Association. Maris loved to paint as her house was adorned with the many paintings she did over the years. She also loved to garden and to spend time with her granddaughter Dana. She was a very caring and sweet woman who never had a bad day in her life all the way to her death. The family would like to thank the Hospice Nurses of the Visiting Nurses Association who were very caring of Maris thru her last days. The family would especially like to thank Maryum Cambell of Angel Hands who the last four years was Maris’s caregiver and most importantly her best friend. Her contributions will never be forgotten. Relatives and friends may join the family on Friday, October 21, 2016 at the Burke-Fortin Funeral Home, 76 Prospect St., Rockville from 4-7 PM. The service will be private at the convenience of the family. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the VNA Hospice, 8 Keynote Dr., Vernon, CT 06066.
