Ann Marie Fortier of Storrs, fondly known as “Annie”, passed away peacefully at home on
Tuesday, January 16. Born in Marion County, Indiana on August 26, 1935, she was the daughter
of the late Douglas H. and Ida M. (Wells) Reed. Annie served various administrative roles at the
University of Connecticut and retired in 1990 after 20 years of service. She enjoyed spending time with family, friends, and neighbors, cheering for UCONN basketball teams, NASCAR racing, gardening, cooking, reading, and until recent years, annual trips to enjoy the warmth, sunshine, and company of family and many good friends in Florida. Annie is survived by her daughter and son in law, Debra and John Loughran of Willington and son, S. Ross McDonald of Columbia. She also leaves a brother, Lowell Reed and his wife, Marjorie, of Sheridan, Indiana and many nieces and nephews. Annie was blessed with two very dear friends, Deeanna Korner and Sylvia Poirier, and also leaves behind her beloved cat, Josie. She was predeceased by her late husband, Laurence H. Fortier III and siblings Dallas, Eldo, Lawrence, Betty, Catherine, Elsie, Eva Mae, and Ruth. She was also predeceased by her step son, Mark A. Fortier. Funeral services will be private and held at the convenience of the family. A celebration of Annie’s life will be scheduled in the spring.
