Obituary for Andrew L. Maciolek

Andrew L. Maciolek, 84 of Ellington, passed away after a long battle with heart disease on July 1, 2018. He was born in the Thompsonville section of Enfield on July 21, 1933 and graduated from Enfield High School in 1950 and began a long career working for CL&P, Yankee Gas and Northeast Utilities. He retired after 40 years of service and spent many years enjoying the things he loved most in the world: his dearly loved wife “J”, his yard, garden, woodworking and his beloved grandchildren. Andy met Janet Sartori in 1952 at the Crystal Lake Ballroom on a Sunday evening on Polka night. Andrew loved to tell the story of how she caught his eye in her red dress. He was smitten as he had found his true love. They were married in 1954 and recently celebrated their 64th wedding anniversary. Besides his wife, Andrew is survived by his sister Maryanne Isham and her husband Walt, his three children Keith and wife Helen (Putriment) of Stafford, Mark and wife Lee (Boehm) of Ellington, Cindy Colombaro and husband Mike of Vernon; nine grandchildren Jessica Maciolek, Taylor Maciolek, Molly Steffes (husband Greg), Alex Maciolek, Odin Maciolek, Celena Addy (husband Sam), Katie DeBiase (husband Andy), Josh Freeman and Rachael Freeman. He is also survived by his brother-in-law Jerry Quill and brother and sister-in-law Anthony and Roseann Scussel as well as many cousins, nieces and nephews. Andy is also survived by the last ROMEO (Retired Old Men Eating Out) from Northeast Utilities- Chet Hijeck. He was predeceased by his parents Louis and Katherine (Serega) Maciolek and a sister-in-law Marie Quill. Special thanks to Mark Giaquinto and Laura Gayton; along with the wonderful care given to him over the years by Dr. Eric Camyre and Dr. Arshad Yekta, as well as Daniel Walker and the nursing staff from the hospice VNA and his home health aide Abdul. Relatives and friends are welcome to join the family from 4-8 p.m. on Thursday, July 5, 2018 at the Burke-Fortin Funeral Home, 76 Prospect Street, Rockville, CT. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11 a.m. on Friday, July 6, 2018 at St. Joseph’s Church, Rockville, CT. Burial will follow at Ellington Center Cemetery, Ellington, CT.
