Condolences

Condolence: John Murphy changed my life. He introduced me to the beauty of mathematics. He inspired me to pursue a 45 year teaching career in mathematics at Case Western Reserve University, Amherst College and Stockton University. I fondly remember his algebra 1, trigonometry and solid geometry courses. He was a man of complete integrity who cared about his students. Although I have not seen him since 1956, I miss him.

Condolence: Will always remember Mr. Murphy's voice coming over the classroom's intercom, "Please send Mister (doomed student's last name)to the office." Whatever fate awaited them was never good news, but Mr. Murphy strived to straighten us out in our teen years, to our benefit. Thanks, John. You will be missed, and never forgotten. And we won't forget those cleats. Not ours, but yours. Still can't figure that out out, 50 years later. Peace.

Condolence: St. Peter said ... Mr. Murphy, please come to my office. I spent too much time in his office. He was always willing to give you a second chance. But no thirds. Called boys Mister, in my case Mr. Wood and girls Miss. Mr. Murphy is a legend in my era. đź‘Ť

Condolence: John Murphy was a very honest and extremely principled individual. He was a gifted math teacher, a competent school administor, but most of all, he was an exceptional man who could express his high ideals in words and could transform these words into action. Toward the end of his life, while his physical health was failing, his mind was as sharp and active as ever. We have truly lost a fine man when John Murphy passed away. May he rest in peace.

Condolence: Mr. Murphy was one of my favorite teachers. Later when I taught at Rockville High, I so appreciated having my former teacher there to share my problems with and receive sound advice. My thoughts and prayers are with his family. Harriet Feldman Farney

Condolence: My prayers are being sent out to all the Murphy family! Your parents were amazing people. Your dad, grampa, great grampa, friend was such an inspiration to me. I chose to become a math teacher for 40 years mainly because of “Mr. Murphy”, my favorite teacher. He was not easy, but expected the best of students, was fair and encouraging. I hope i had similar expectations for my students over the years. When I visited my dad at Woodlake, I was so touched my his constant love and devotion to your dear mom. It was a pleasure for me to speak with him when I saw him. I wrote him several notes after my dad died, but regret that I did not continue the correspondence. I also regret not reaching out to any of you to find out where he was most recently residing. God be with his and your mom’s souls. I will try to be at the funeral tomorrow to pay my last tributes to him. Sincere condolences to all of you.
