Obituary for James B. Kent

James B. Kent, 82, of Tolland, CT, beloved husband of Priscilla (Standish) Kent passed away Thursday, October 11th 2018. He was born June 11th 1936 in Hartford, CT, the son of the late Joseph Willard and Kathryn Helena (Bahan) Kent.

He attended Hartford High School, Hillyer College, Manchester Community College and earned an associate’s degree in accounting. After leaving high school he enlisted the U.S Army Corps. of Engineers. He was stationed in Alaska which always held dear memories for him. Shortly after Army discharge he married his beloved wife Priscilla, in 1960. They put down roots in Tolland in 1970 where Jim built their dream home. He secured employment with Pratt & Whitney as a manufacturing engineer where he proudly served them for over 30 years. He was an elected member of the community with service to: Tolland Board of Selectman, Knights of Columbus, Eucharistic Minister, Youth Minister, Historical Society, youth basketball coach, and the Chamber of Commerce. He was also a dedicated committee member for the State Vocational Education system. He had countless hobbies that consisted of; woodworking, cooking, traveling and watching sports. What he loved best was being with his family.

James is survived by Priscilla, his “favorite wife” of 58 years, his daughter Kathleen Kent of Glastonbury, CT, his son Timothy Kent (Heidi) of Chatham, MA, son Christopher Kent (Diana) of Ashford, CT, and son James Kent (Shannon) of Ellington, CT, 13 grandchildren and 3 great grandchildren. Jim was also survived by his 2 brothers, Willard Kent of Vernon, CT, Peter Kent of Reno, NV, and countless extended family members. He was predeceased by his brother Stephen Kent (Phyllis) of Glen Burnie, MD.

Relatives and friends are welcome to join the family from 4-7pm on Friday, October 19th 2018 at the Tolland Memorial Funeral Home, 375 Merrow Rd (Rte. 195) Tolland, CT, with military honors following at 7pm. A celebration of life will be held on Saturday, October 20th at 11am at St. Matthew’s church, (111 Tolland Green) Tolland, CT. Burial will be private at the convenience of the family.
