Obituary for Warren A. Hunt

Warren A. Hunt of Ellington, CT and previously of Woodstock and East Hartford passed away Monday, October 15, 2018. He is survived by his wife of 66 years, Dolores Kenefick Hunt, daughter Susan Hunt Ostermeier and son-in-law John, daughters-in-law Joan Hunt and Lynn Kennedy Hunt and his sister Beverly Hunt Nielsen. He was predeceased by his 3 sons, Michael, Jimmy, and Stephen Hunt. He also leaves his 6 grandchildren whom he felt blessed to be able to see grow up into fine men and women, Eric Hunt, Duane Hunt, Nicole Ostermeier Blackwell, Meranda VanDeventer, Reid Hunt and Amy Hunt Shaw along with his much-loved great grandchildren who range in age from 3-20. Born in East Hartford on April 19, 1930 to the late Maybelle Petersen Hunt and William Hunt, Warren was the middle of 5 children. He was predeceased by his brothers Marvin and George, and his sister Barbara Hunt Christensen. Warren graduated from Glastonbury High School and was active in sports most of his life. He was a truck driver and owner of the former Peters Package Store in Vernon, CT. Just prior to retiring he worked for the athletic department of Loomis Chaffee School where he got to work with student athletes which he enjoyed. In retirement he was blessed to live on Quasset Lake in Woodstock, a place where family and friends gathered each weekend and built many memories. He was an active member of the community and a volunteer for the mentally disabled. He was known by just about everyone in the neighborhood through his daily walks with his dog Sophie. The family would like to acknowledge and thank all the staff at Woodlake at Tolland for their compassionate and kindly care of Warren over the 2 years he was with them. Warren will be remembered as a sweet gentleman and for his kindness. In lieu of flowers, please consider doing random acts of kindness in his memory. A memorial service will be held at 1 pm on Friday, October 19, 2018 at the Burke-Fortin Funeral Home, 76 Prospect St., Rockville, CT. Burial will follow at Ellington Center Cemetery, Ellington.
