Obituary for Robert B. Burns

Robert B. Burns, 86, of Tolland, beloved husband of the late Ludmilla (Donner) Burns passed away Monday, February 25, 2019. He was born September 13, 1932 in Springfield, MA, the son of the late Carl and Frances (Comstock) Burns. He worked at Smith and Wesson (S&W) and joined the United States Marine Corps in 1952 where he became a drill sergeant at Parris Island, South Carolina. When he returned to civilian life, he resumed working at S&W while attending the American International College (AIC) in Springfield, where he met his future wife. They moved to Washington D.C. where he worked at the Department of Defense. He later moved to Connecticut to join Pratt & Whitney as an Economist and stayed for over 33 years. During that time, he attended the University of Connecticut earning a Masters Degree in Business Administration. He created ROM Associates in 1994 along with two former Pratt & Whitney colleagues where he retired in 2014. He is survived by his three sons, Robert Burns and his wife Lisa, Christopher Burns and his wife Julie, and John Burns all of Tolland; his brothers, Billy, Charlie, David and Carl Burns; his sister, Joan Slavin and her husband Richard; his grandchildren, Brooke and Christopher; and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his siblings, Betty, Gerry, Bud, and Gordon. He will be remembered as a strong, kind and loving father who always made time for his family.
