Robert J. “Bob” Dowd, 92 of Deerfield Beach Florida, and Windsor Locks, loving husband for 66 years to Kathleen (Holmes) Dowd, passed away peacefully on Wednesday April 17, 2019.

Robert was born in Warehouse Point, and grew up in Windsor Locks where he attended St. Mary’s School, and Windsor Locks High School. Robert served in the United States Navy during World War II, after which he attended the University of Connecticut earning a Bachelors degree in 1950. He later earned his Master’s
Degree in Education from the University of Hartford in 1965.
After college, Robert joined the Windsor Locks school system initially teaching 7th grade, then transitioning to teaching mathematics at Windsor Locks High School where he taught until his retirement. Robert also taught in the high school driver education program for many years.
Robert enjoyed a lifelong love of sports. He played on the baseball and basketball teams at Winsor Locks High School, and on the football team at the University of Connecticut. During retirement in Florida, he worked part time at the Deer Creek Tennis Club where he and Kathleen remained active playing tennis.
Robert and his beloved Kathleen spent many happy years living at the Cove Beach Club in Deerfield Beach, Florida where they enjoyed an active social life, and made many dear friends.
Robert is survived by his daughter, Diane Dowd of Mount Laurel, NJ; his son and daughter-in-law, Gerald and Mary Dowd of Broad Brook; his sister, Lois Dowd of Deerfield Beach, FL; his grandchildren who brought him so much joy, Caitlin D’Ambrosio and her husband John of Windsor Locks; Kevin Dowd of Manchester; his two great-granddaughters, Jordana and Catherine D’Ambrosio, his great-grandson, Peter D’Ambrosio; and special friend and caregiver Kelly Luman of Deerfield Beach, FL.
Relatives and friends may call at the Bassinger and Dowd Funeral Home, 37 Gardner Street, East Windsor, Tuesday evening April 23 from 5 to 7pm. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Wednesday April 24 at 10am at St. Catherine Church, Broad Brook. Burial will follow in St. Catherine Cemetery.
