Obituary

Marlene (Swift) Bohadik, 67, of Tolland, CT devoted wife of David A. Bohadik, passed away on Saturday, May 11, 2019. She was born in Stafford Springs, CT on August 10, 1951 to the late Robert and Sophia Swift (Dunay). She spent her career as an outstanding, dedicated nurse, retiring in 2018 from Saint Joseph's Residence in Enfield, CT. Marlene was the most generous and kind person you would ever meet; she was truly one in a million. Her energy would light up any room and her enthusiasm was contagious. She enjoyed collecting antiques and the thrill of a good bargain. She loved being in the garden, attending church, creating a new soup, watching the snow fall, chatting with her friends, crafting, relaxing with her knitting, swimming with her sister and combing the beach for treasures. Marlene adored her horse, Royal, and loved every chance she got to snuggle him and kiss his nose. Christmas was Marlene's favorite holiday; she would spend all year searching for the perfect gifts and be overjoyed watching them get opened. Most of all, she cherished the countless hours she spent playing with the lights of her life, her four grandchildren Everett, Brady, Wyatt and Brooke. She never missed a school function and was always her family's biggest cheerleader. In addition to her husband, Marlene is survived by her son, Timothy Bohadik, his wife Haley and their children Everett and Wyatt; her daughter Alison Martin, her husband Keegan, and their children Brady and Brooke, all of Stafford Springs. She is also survived by her siblings, Roberta Passardi and her husband Leo of Willington; Richard Swift and Jewell of Stafford Springs. In addition, in-laws Richard and Joan Bohadik of Manchester and Wesley and Linda Shorts of Vernon; nieces and nephews Melissa and her husband Jason, Jeffrey and his wife Darlene, Michele and her husband Nicholas, Shawn and his wife Susan, Christopher, Pamela and her husband Christopher, Robert and Terri, Richard Paul Jr. and his wife Laureen, Jeffrey and his wife Valerie, Gregory and his wife Maggie, Stacey, 18 great nieces and nephews and 1 great great-nephew. In addition to her family, she also adored her dearest friends: Maureen Moreshead, Michael Martin, Karen & Jerry Sas, Barbara Smiegal, Lois Deptula, Nancy Bojarski, Lori Fortin, Sister Lorraine, Rick Gottier and her Friday Lunch crew. Relatives and friends are welcome to join the family from 4-7 p.m., Friday, May 17, 2019 at the Burke-Fortin Funeral Home, 76 Prospect Street, Rockville. A Funeral Service will be held at 10:00 a.m., Saturday, May 18, 2019 at St. John’s Episcopal Church, 523 Hartford Turnpike, Vernon. Burial will follow at St. Edward's Cemetery in Stafford. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation in her honor to Little Sisters of the Poor, Saint Joseph's Residence, 1365 Enfield Street, Enfield, CT 06082, www.littlesistersofthepoorconnecticut.org For online condolences or directions please visit: www.pietrasfuneralhome.com

This is one of the few photos that I have of our cousin Marlene. It is a picture of most of Grandma Dunay's grandchildren, taken at the home of Uncle Paul and Aunt Margaret, in June 1956. Marlene is in the second row, seated, next to the end on the right.

Marlene was one of the best nurses I've known, caring, compassionate, beautiful "inside and outside," always had a great smile, thoughtful, and a very kind lady. I will surely miss her! Alison, I am deeply saddened and sorry for your loss. My thoughts and prayers are with you and your family. With my deepest sympathy, Violeta de los Reyes from St. Joseph's Residence.
