GRANDAHL, Marie R.
1919-2019
Marie “Jeanne” Grandahl, departed this earthly life on Friday, October 18. Born December 28, 1919 in New Britain, Connecticut, she was the daughter and youngest child of Joseph and Concetta Rocco who had emigrated from Calabria, Italy. Jeanne was predeceased by her parents, beloved siblings Patsy, Mario and Noni, her loving husband Roland and daughters Cindy and Joan.
Jeanne carried a deep and abiding Catholic faith throughout her life and was empathetic and generous, quick with a laugh and fond of repartee with those whom she loved – a skill she and Rollie sharply honed together throughout 66 years of marriage. She was everyone’s favorite cook and baker, too.
She leaves behind her son Lance (Kathleen), of Brooklyn, NY; Teresa and Jeff Ouellette - whom she considered as children; daughter-in-law Linda Grandahl; grandchildren Carly (Kevin) Martin, Alex Grandahl, Alec Smith, Candice and Jared Ouelette, great-grandchildren Kai and Lily, cousins, nieces, and friends and neighbors throughout her long life who were attracted by her gregarious spirit.
The family would like to heartily thank everyone at Gladeview Health Care in Old Saybrook for their steady, kind and compassionate care of Jeanne throughout the last chapter of her life.
Services will be private and handled by Bassinger & Dowd Funeral Home, East Windsor, CT. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to: Perkins School for the Blind, Perkins Trust Office, 175 N. Beacon Street, Watertown, MA 02472.
