Obituary for Marcellus Anthony Vaughn Davis

Marcellus Anthony Vaughn Davis, 22, of Vernon, died December 2, 2019 as a result of injuries sustained in a motor vehicle accident. He was born February 13, 1997 in Hartford, CT, the son of Morgan J. Davis of Vernon, CT., and Kamani Barrett of Bristol, CT. He attended Vernon Public Schools through his Freshman year and then graduated from Raymond Hill High School in New Britain, CT. as part of the Class of 2016. At Raymond Hill he was a member of the baseball and the basketball teams, as well as member of the drama club. He was currently employed by Cumberland Farm’s in Vernon, CT., and had plans to study engineering and to join the military.
Marcellus grew up predominantly in Vernon where he engaged in many sports and hobbies. He participated in Vernon Parks and Recreation soccer and basketball, as well as playing on the Rockville High School Freshman football and J.V. basketball teams. While living in New York City he continued he love of basketball, playing for his high school team and in every neighborhood park. Growing up he did it all: karate, bowling, summer camp, hockey, golf, skateboarding, music, surfing, and more. He loved video games, practical jokes, music, anime, animals, sneakers, comic book movies, custom cars, motorcycles, and traveling.
Marcellus was a gentleman and a scholar; a poet and warrior; a man of character and of his word. Marcellus truly lived life to the fullest and encouraged others to do the same. He cherished the little things and invested his time where it mattered most—in the people he loved. He was humble, loyal, and forgiving. He saw the best in everyone. He possessed effortless charm, a sharp wit, an infectious laugh, and a heartwarming smile. He led by example and was the positivity much needed in the world.
Marcellus is survived by his parents Morgan J. Davis, her husband, Travis Williamson, and Kamani Barrett. He also leaves his maternal grandparents, Michael E. Davis and Seanne Morris, and a maternal great-grandmother, Helen J. Morris, also of Vernon. He is also survived by several aunts, uncles, cousins, and friends.
Funeral arrangements are being handled by the Burke-Fortin Funeral Home in Rockville-Vernon. Calling hours will be Friday, December 20, 2019 from 4:00-7:00 p.m. The funeral and burial will be held on Saturday, December 21, 2019 and will be private, as expressly wished by the family.
