Obituary for Shirley A. Soucier

Shirley A. (Merritt) Soucier, 72, of Broad Brook, proud Glastonbury native, beloved wife of Robert C. Soucier passed away Saturday, January 4, 2020. She was born April 24, 1947, the daughter of the late George and Thelma (Blessing) Merritt. She was known for her charity work and for her caring nature among all that knew her. She was especially fond of running charity events for Special Wishes and the VFW Post 2083. She was a member of the VFW Women’s Auxiliary and the German Club amid many other clubs over the years such as the Moose and Italian American Clubs. She was a great cook and lover of animals, especially her dogs. Besides her loving husband, Robert she is survived by her children, Roberlie S. Nelson and her husband Paul of East Hartford, Wendy Zern and her husband William of Broad Brook, Roy Smith and his wife JoAnn of Broad Brook, David Smith and his wife Julia of Marlborough, and Tammi Romano of Broad Brook; her step children, Kim Burke of South Windsor, Thomas Burke Jr. of Florida, and Deborah Chartier and David of Broad Brook; her grandchildren; Amy Lynn Hendren, Aprill Donald, Keith and Sean Zern, Meghan Tetreault, Shane Davidson, Cassandra, Antonia and Gustavo and Stephan Heredia, and Katie Burke, John Barile, Rachel Kennedy and Kyle Puchalsky and her 15 great grandchildren. She also leaves many nieces, nephews and cousins including two particularly dear to her heart, Donna (Garavelli) Myers and JoAnn (Garavelli) Pagliughi who she identified as sisters to her. She was predeceased by her brother, George Merritt. Relatives and friends are welcome to join the family from 11:30 AM to 1:30 PM with a funeral home service following at 1:30 PM on Friday, January 10, 2020 at the Burke-Fortin Funeral Home, 76 Prospect St., Rockville, CT 06066.
