Shirley Marcus Elstein, 96, originally of NY, NY, passed on January 25, 2020 in Glastonbury, CT. Shirley was born on January 18, 1924, one of three children born to Samuel and Bella (Gomberg) Marcus. She was raised in the Bronx, NY and moved to Long Island with her former husband, Edward Elstein, where they raised their family. Shirley worked for many years as a secretary/bookkeeper, eventually taking on higher responsibilities as a financial controller of several small independent companies. After retiring, she volunteered at a local hospital and spent her weekends traveling to the homes of her children and grandchildren. Shirley leaves 4 children, 8 grandchildren, and 3 great-grandchildren, as well as several nieces and nephews. Shirley’s family would like to express gratitude to the many friends who gave their support to Shirley and her family during her final years. Special thanks are extended to Shirley’s com- panions, Jennifer Desmond and Tanyka DeLeon, as well as to the staff of Brookdale Buckingham, of Glastonbury, for their extraordinary and compassionate care. Funeral services will be held at the
Bassinger and Dowd Funeral Home; 37 Gardner St., East Windsor, on Saturday, February 1 . Visitation
will be held from 9:00 to 9:30 a.m. followed by a funeral service and burial. A luncheon for family and friends will be held thereafter. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association
