Aileen A. Halloran of Ellington passed away on May 5, 2020 at the age of 66. She was born in Norwich on October 9, 1953 to the late Joseph Archambault and Victoria Szydlo and previously lived in Taftville and Vernon before moving to Ellington.
She is survived by her husband of 44 years, John M. Halloran; her daughters and sons-in-law, Kristin Halloran and Kyle Kessler of Atlanta, Georgia, and Rebecca and Oscar Gonzalez of Iowa City, Iowa; her granddaughter, Isabella Gonzalez; and her sister and brother-in-law, Gail and Donald Mordavsky of South Windsor; along with a large and beloved extended family.
An avid reader, she loved traveling and spending time with her children and granddaughter, all of whom shared her love of books. She loved cooking shows and wine, and was delighted to visit many French wineries in 2017 and Julia Child’s home in France in 2018. She was adored by her granddaughter, who called her Yaya, and their daily calls brought her immense joy.
After graduating from Rockville High School, she earned a B.A. from the University of Connecticut and studied at Universidad de Sevilla (Spain). She later earned an M.A. from Cambridge College and spent her career working in adult education, spending many years with the Capitol Region Education Council. Other professional involvement included ConnTESOL, CAACE, and the National Association for Multicultural Education. She was always generous with her time and talents, volunteering with Kidsafe CT, Literacy Volunteers of Greater Hartford, the Network Against Domestic Abuse, and Friends of Hall Memorial Library.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Friends of the Hall Memorial Library.
Burial will be in St. Bernard Cemetery and services will be held at a later date. To share online condolences, please visit

Dear members of Aileen's family,
I was deeply saddened to hear of Aileen's passing. It came as a shock to me. And I can only imagine how the loss of her has deeply affected all of her family members, loved ones, friends and professional colleagues. Over the years, I have been a professional colleague of Aileen as for the past six-seven years I have worked in Adult Education as the ESL Coordinator for Manchester Adult and Continuing Education Program. Aileen was a remarkable educational consultant and human being. I learned so much from her and she was an invaluable resource to our program. She was incredibly generous with her time and helped me grow significantly in my leadership of Manchester's Adult Ed. ESL program. Whenever I asked for her assistance, without hesitation, she was always generous with her time and always incredibly knowledgeable in the information and ideas she gave me. I'll always remember one time 2-3 years ago, I asked to meet with her at her CREC offices in Hartford to ask for assistance with a program challenge I was seeking assistance with. I had planned to spend perhaps an hour with Aileen, seeking ideas and drawing upon her vast experience of working in Adult Ed. ESL. Well, that one hour turned into a two or three hour meeting and I left with so many ideas including a critical idea that I have put into place during these unprecedented times we are living in. So I will always be very appreciative and grateful for all the assistance she gave to me and subsequently to the teachers I supervise and then most important, to the adult ESL learners that we so faithfully serve and try to help learn English so that they can fully participate and integrate into our society. So there is a lasting legacy that Aileen's life has perhaps hundreds and even thousands. So with the greatest sincerity, I want to offer my condolences and in the coming days will continue to hold family and friends in my prayers. Aileen lived a remarkable life that impacted so many lives in a positive way. It was a life well lived. God Bless. Roland Axelson, Wethersfield, CT

Had gotten many a CEU through Aileen's lectures, and each time she greeted us with generous smiles, upbeat attitude, and down-to-earth comfort. May she have been welcomed into her eternal home as comfortably as she welcomed in others.
Sincere condolences,
D. Albright
