Obituary for Francis E. "Frank" Hamm

Francis “Frank” E. Hamm of Ellington, CT passed away peacefully on Saturday November 28th, 2020 at Manchester Memorial Hospital.

Born January 25th, 1957 of the late Edward and Marion Hamm, Frank is survived by his wife Donna of Ellington, CT, and his 3 sons Gary and his wife Amy of Ellington, CT, Anthony of Vernon, CT, Francis of Groton, CT, as well as his step-daughter Bridget and her husband Jarrett of Riverview, FL. Frank also leaves behind his brother Dan and his wife Clare of The Villages, FL, and his grandson Zachery, son of Gary and Amy, who always brought a smile to his grandfather’s face.

Frank was always active and an avid outdoorsman; both an athlete as well as a boy scout in his younger years. He graduated from Paul Smith’s College and UConn studying Forestry, which led him to his long career going as a land surveyor. Spending many years working out of Colchester, CT, he was very proud to have been a licensed land surveyor in 5 states.

When he wasn’t working, and sometimes even when he was, he enjoyed taking a break to go fishing or hunting; always keeping a fishing rod in his work vehicle in case a stream near the road caught his eye. He also enjoyed getting out on his Harley, and going canoeing or camping. This love of doing things outside was something Frank shared with all family, whether it be bringing each of his sons along surveying at some point over the years, or more often going out fishing together.

Whether it be from fond memories, lessons learned, or an abundance of DIY projects he helped with or left in progress, Frank will be forever remembered by his friends and family and greatly missed.

Calling hours will be held on Sunday December 13th from 1:00 - 3:00 PM at Burke-Fortin Funeral Home in Rockville, CT. Frank’s funeral will be held at St. Bernard Church in Rockville, CT on Monday December 14th at 10:00 AM. In lieu of flowers, the family is requesting donations to the American Heart Association in Frank’s memory.
