Edward S. Orlowski passed away Friday, December 11 while doing his morning regime. He had his routine planned out to read his morning paper from start to finish, getting his walk in and hitting his heavy bag which kept him motoring until his heart gave out at the age of 94. He was born and raised in Boston enjoying his freedom to do as he pleased. He self-educated himself past his high school years living and learning through books. His passion for adventure led him to join the military and off he went to sea in the Navy during World War II joining the boxing team. He couldn't wait to be a part of the Marines during the Korean War experiencing the best time of his life writing about it and having his written words placed in the Marine Corps Museum in VA. He was honored with the Purple Heart and the Bronze Star. The military molded his outlook on life and he brought this outlook with him while bringing up his five children. His love for country and family meant everything to him and he liked to be heard so he decided to use the paper to form his opinions for everyone to hear. He always said, if I only had a memory. He remembered all of his military years and never stopped living until he was knocked out. Ed was predeceased by his wife Barbara Ahern Orlowski, his Polish immigrant parents Karolina Klatha and Francis Orlowski and his sister Veronica Miller from Everett, MA. Living relatives are his three daughters, Andrea Lavitt of Ellington, Carloyn Mangiofico of Stafford, Doreen Moore of Manchester. His two sons Steven Orlowski of Ellington and Mike Orlowski of West Hartford. He has eight loving grandchildren, Michelle Simpson of Georgia, Leanne and Logan Moore of Manchester, Matt and Nicole Orlowski of Ellington, Nick, Ryan and Adam Orlowski of West Hartford and two great grandchildren, Joseph and Barbara Simpson of Georgia. Ed was a strong independent minded proud man who loved his family and lived his life to his standards. To respect his ongoing privacy, there will be a private ceremony on his 95th birthday, December 26, with military honors at the Ellington Cemetery, Ellington CT.
