Obituary for Constance F. Desmond (Fitzgerald)

Constance FitzGerald Desmond passed away peacefully Sunday February 7, 2021.
She has embarked on her final journey from her home at Vernon Manor where she spent her time entertaining beloved staff and friends with songs and stories of her many travels.
Born December 23, 1933 in Charlottetown, P.E.I., Canada, the daughter of Gladys Green and Geoffrey “Bill” FitzGerald, she immigrated with her mother and brothers David and Richard FitzGerald to Falmouth, MA.
Connie began traveling at an early age, moving to NYC at 18, where she worked for PanAm, and where she met the love of her life, Joseph C. Desmond.
Her life has been an ever-exciting adventure, experiencing the world’s wonders as a travel agent. Along the way she enlisted a wide range of characters to join her in her (mis)adventures. She also managed to raise six kids, son Christopher Desmond of Ellington, CT, daughter Eileen Berry and husband Dean of Enfield, CT, daughter Sara Zitka and husband Dean of Hanahan, SC, son Peter Desmond and wife Darcy of Vernon, CT and son Neil Desmond and wife Tammy of Hanahan, SC. She was predeceased by her husband and a daughter, Jeanne Desmond of Groton, CT.
She also leaves her brother Steve FitzGerald, and sister Anne Juhasz, both of Lakewood Ohio,14 grandchildren, an ever increasing mob of great grandchildren, and many beloved cousins, extended family and friends.
She instilled in everyone the same sense of adventure and love of life which she so whole-heartedly embraced. From Rio to Cairo, Paris, to Mozambique, from climbing the Great Wall of China and visiting the Shinto shrines of Japan, there is not a corner of the globe she has not visited, and every day lived by her motto, “Set the world to music, and let’s dance!” Walk thru Calling hours are 2 to 4pm, Sunday, February 14, 2021 at Burke-Fortin Funeral Home, 76 Prospect St., Rockville CT. Please abide by CDC guidelines, masks and social distancing will be mandatory. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association or Operation Smile. A memorial service/burial will be held in June, at the convenience of the family. And meanwhile, the Adventure Continues.
