Obituary for Lauria Morneault
Lauria Marie (Jalbert) Morneault of Broad Brook CT, passed away peacefully on February 20, 2021 at age 96.
She was born on April 25, 1924 in Eagle Lake Maine to Victoria (Saucier) Jalbert and William Jalbert.
She was pre-deceased by her spouse, Alcide Joseph Morneault, her son, Joseph, her brothers Blackie, Eddie and Alberie Jalbert. She is survived by her siblings and spouses: Gilman and Aline Jalbert, Raynold and Priscilla Jalbert, Carole (Jalbert) and Donald Martin of Maine, and Velma (Jalbert) Pelletier of CT; 3 children – Carole Keniston of Maine, Bill and Karen Morneault, and Tony and Sarah Morneault of CT; and 7 Grandchildren: Carmen, Kevin, Derec, Ben, Dylan, Josh and Gracie. She was a caretaker of children not only in her own family but also in others’.
She married Alcide Morneault in 1940 just before he went into the US Army during World War II.
They moved down to South Portland, Maine soon after he returned from his service in WWII. She worked at Valley’s Steak House in Portland, Maine for Mr. Valley himself. She was the head waitress who trained all of the other waitresses. She also worked at Baxter’s Lobster House in Portland.
They eventually moved down to Broad Brook, CT, where Lauria stayed home to raise her sons. Her family- those related, and those she adopted by her special love and caring personality - was her joy. She was a neighborhood mom to the Elaine Drive kids, who thought of her fondly.
After Alcide retired, they lived in Eagle Lake Maine for ½ the year and in Broad Brook CT for the other ½ of the year.
She lived her life by giving to others. She made crabmeat sandwiches weekly for the Sisters of the Poor, was always asked by parishioners at ST. Catherine’s to pray for them. She was always happy to oblige.
She never said it, but her secret to a long life? Strong faith, a good sense of humor, and sweet potatoes (that she said!). She was someone who touched so many with her warmth, unfailing love, and kindness.

Relatives and friends may join the family on Thursday, February 25, 2021 between 4pm-6pm at the Bassinger & Dowd Funeral Home, 37 Gardner Street, East Windsor, CT. A Mass of Christian Burial will take place on Friday, February 26, 2021 at 11am at St. Joseph Church, 1747 Poquonock Ave., Windsor, CT. Burial will follow at St. Catherine’s Cemetery in East Windsor, CT. Please wear a mask and practice social distancing guidelines.
