Obituary for Diane B. Dreher

Diane B. Dreher, 87, of Vernon, beloved wife of Alfred Dreher passed away Sunday, March 28, 2020 after a courageous battle with multiple health conditions. She was born February 18, 1934 in Hartford, the daughter of the late Benedict and Florence Grotta. She graduated from Hartford Public High School in 1952. In that same year she went to work at Aetna Life & Casualty in Hartford as Records Clerk, where she met her future husband. On October 14th 1961 she married Alfred at Trinity Episcopal church in Harford. She & Alfred would have been married 60 years this coming October. She left Aetna in 1963, prior to the birth of her children. In 1980 she returned to Aetna in her former position, working in Windsor, Hartford & Glastonbury before retiring in 1992. She was an avid camper who enjoyed spending 3 day weekends at Charlie Brown & later Beaver Pines campgrounds. She was a former Vice President of Membership for the Aetna Retirees also serving on its Board of Directors. She was an active member of St. John’s Episcopal Church in Vernon, helping with their prayer group, ECW, Sunday school teacher and Altar guild along with volunteering at their monthly Senior luncheons. She loved reading and knitting. She was an avid sports fan, especially UConn Women’s basketball, Jeff Gordon in NASCAR, New York Yankees and the New England Patriots. She was a devoted fan of the Young & Restless, she would become upset if something interfered with her not being able to see it. Besides her loving husband, Alfred she is survived by her two sons, John and Jeffrey Dreher of Vernon and her grandson, Joseph Dreher. The family would like to thank Judi & Sharon for comforting Diane in her final days. Relatives and friends are welcome to join the family from 4 to 7 PM on Thursday, April 1, 2021 at the Burke-Fortin Funeral Home, 76 Prospect St., Rockville.
