Obituary for Michael Sebastian Gorgone

Michael Sebastian Gorgone, 46, of Columbia, CT, beloved husband of Johannah (Bavier) Gorgone passed away peacefully on Friday, March 26, 2021. He was born on July 31, 1974 in Willimantic, the son of Gary and Linda Gorgone. He was a loving father and lifelong connoisseur of adventure. Michael lived life to the fullest. He was constantly chasing the next adventure and was rarely sitting idle waiting for life to pass him by. Endless hours and miles were spent hiking, enjoying nature with his family or dear friends. He enjoyed snowboarding, sky diving, SCUBA diving, CrossFit and surfing with his family. Michael shared his passion for adventure by teaching, not only to his children but as a snowboard instructor at Mount Snow and was working towards being a tandem parachute instructor at CPI. He was well known for his social media posts documenting the chronicles of his adventures, with many waiting and watching for the next adventure. Michael was a soccer fanatic and love to watch soccer here and abroad. He also was a proud dad coaching, watching and being active with his children who play soccer, baseball, basketball, lacrosse, golf, ski, snowboard, fly in wind tunnels and so much more. Nothing brought him more joy than playing golf with Sebastian. Costa Rica was a special place for the whole family who had traveled there many times over the years. The beauty and adventure of Costa Rica was the perfect environment where they all felt very much at home.

Besides his loving wife, Johannah, he is survived by his three loving children, Giavannah Marie (19), Sebastian Paul (15), and William Michael (7). He is also survived by his father Gary Gorgone of Willimantic, his brother Matthew Gorgone and his wife Tonya of Lisbon, his sister Maryann Gorgone and her husband Keith Rice of Willimantic, his mother-in-law Maureen Bavier of Coventry, and brother-in-law Noah Bavier of Coventry. He was predeceased by his mother Linda Gorgone and father-in-law William Bavier.

Michael, a financial advisor by trade but adventurer by heart, earned his master’s degree in business management from Albertus Magnus College. He focused his love of adventure towards serving his state and his country in the Army. Michael served as an infantryman, a bridge crewmember, and other jobs in elite units, in both the Connecticut and Rhode Island National Guard. He was honorably discharged after 6 combined years of service, and he often looked back at his service and his adventures in the military fondly.

Michael’s greatest love of all were his children. His adventures with them, whether it was surfing with Gigi in Costa Rica, spending time in Vermont with Sebby and Will skiing, snowboarding or the quiet times he had with them, was where he was the happiest. His greatest strength and desire was being the best father to them that he could be. He instilled his sense of adventure and love of life in each one of them and they will carry on his legacy forever. He was the best dad and will be missed dearly.
