Obituary for Thomas Valliere

Thomas Valliere, 74, of Coventry beloved husband and best friend for forty-eight years of Lois Lloyd Valliere, passed peacefully from this life on April 6th after a long struggle with many health issues. Tom was born and raised in Torrington, CT. where his love of all things outdoors began. Tom is the eldest son of the late Donat Eudore Valliere and Clarice Jane Lewis.

Tom is survived by his brother Jeffrey Lewis, brothers and sisters-in law, Gerald Cosman, Carl and Polly Schaefer, Mary Wilson, and David and Gloria Gourley. His nieces and nephews that he adored, the Reverend Sandra Cosman, Steve and Rochelle Cosman, Chris and Jennifer Holt, Scott and Dianne Smith, Scott and Nancy Biederman, Joseph Schaefer, Jameson and Jennifer Lloyd, and Jason and Danielle Squatrito. Tom also is survived by thirteen great-nieces and nephews, James Paul, Allison, Bailey, Jordan, Justin, Adam, Kevin, Nick, Kelly, Katelynn, Rebecca, Mackenzie, and Aubrie. Tom was predeceased by Kenneth Wilson, Herbert and Kathleen Lloyd, and Shirley Cosman.

Tom graduated from Torrington High School in 1964. He earned his Bachelors of Arts from the University of Connecticut in 1974 and his Masters of Health Science from Quinnipiac University in 1994. Tom’s professional career included working at Rockville General Hospital, Charlotte Hungerford Hospital, and Johnson Memorial Hospital as Laboratory Director. Wherever he worked, he claimed the laboratory was his and took on that responsibility with great dedication.

Tom is a veteran of the United States Air Force. He was stationed at Lackland Air Force Base in San Antonio, Texas, and Kindley Air Force Base in Bermuda where he fell in love with Bermuda and it became a favorite vacation spot for us.

Tom loved to travel and we have many great memories of trips to our favorite places often with our friends and family.

As a lover of great food and an avid fisherman and sportsman, he never met a sweet dessert, a tree, or a dog he didn’t like. Tom’s perfect day would start before sunrise to go to his deer stand in the woods, and end with his birddog in his lap sitting by the fireplace and watching a UCONN basketball or Yankee game. Tom’s wish for all his friends would be that you take a walk in the woods often and enjoy all you find there. That is where he will be.

Tom wanted to thank the Coventry Volunteer Fire Department, his Home Instead companions, especially Debby, and Hartford Health Care at Home team for their caring and support.

The Funeral Service will be private for the family and close friends.

In lieu of flowers, donations in honor of Tom’s life may be made to St. John’s Episcopal Church, 523 Hartford Turnpike, Vernon, CT. 06066, or the Coventry Volunteer Fire Association, 1755 Main Street, Coventry, CT 06238.
