Obituary for Helene P. Lindsay (Ponton)

Helene P. Lindsay, 87, of Manchester, passed away peacefully on April 21, 2021.

Helene was born in Newport, Vermont in 1933, and was the daughter of the late Eugene and Evelyn Ponton. Helene grew up in Hartford and made her family home in Enfield, later moving to Unionville and then finally to Manchester. Helene adored her five children, her three grandchildren and her two great-grandchildren. Her kitty, Piper, was her best bud in her last five years and they were inseparable. Helene was a lover of all animals and shared that joy with her children who had the benefit of growing up with dogs, cats, rabbits, salamanders, gerbils, mice, hermit crabs and more. In her heyday, Helene was obsessed with gardening and was incredibly creative with her sewing, needlepoint, painting, cross-stitching and more. Helene was strong, stubborn and sassy – traits her children are grateful to have had imparted on them during their lives. She had a fabulous sense of humor and was notorious for slipping money into your purse or pocket that you wouldn't find until you got home. When you did the same back to her to return it, you would again find it slipped back in your belongings. You just had to let her win this game or it would have gone on forever.

Helene was predeceased by her husband, Dwight Kent Lindsay Jr.; her siblings, Paulette Bennett, Gay Amaio, Louise Guica, Armand Ponton; and by her daughter, Terry Ekstrom. She leaves behind her daughters, Lorre Jordan, Deanne Fauteux and husband, Mike, and Melanie Jordan; her son, Mark Jordan and wife, Cheralee; her grandchildren, Anthony Carrabbia, Nicole Jordan, and Jeremy Jordan; and her great-grandchildren, Preston Roy and Matthew Gallo. An amazing mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, mentor and friend, she will be forever loved and missed.
