Marilyn Irene (Dimlow Barstis) Lachat passed away on Friday, April 23, 2021, at home surrounded by her family at the age of 89. She was predeceased by her first husband, Joseph Barstis, her second husband, Maurice Lachat and her son-in-law Richard Augustus. Marilyn's spirit will live on in her children, son Robert Barstis (Phylis), daughter Lynn Augustus, and son Jeffrey Barstis (Bounthanh). Also, her stepson Wayne Lachat; “daughter”-in-law Tracey Lewis (David Hebert) who provided so much love and support to Mom and her family. She also leaves her 10 grandchildren, Paul Barstis (Brandyn), Amanda Thompson (Kevin), Scott Barstis (fiancé Erica Lachapelle), Erica Richardson (Eric), Liz Lachat, Emily Miles (Karl), Breahna Boucher (Kyle Wagner), Steven Augustus (Charlotte), John Augustus and Alison Pachecano (Ramiro). She also leaves 11 great-grandchildren, Lily, Colin and Grace Barstis, Benjamin, Michael and Kevin Thompson, Samantha and Alex Augustus, Reilly and Ivey Pachecano and Bailey Richardson. Also, a dear cousin and her "little brother” Edward Dimlow, her sister-in-law and lifelong friend Ruth Hastillo, her best friend Cecy Mickey, her wonderful neighbor and friend Jan Bellinger, many nieces and nephews, and her beloved dog Bentley.
She was born to the late George and Irene (Fahey) Dimlow in Manchester, CT on July 19, 1931, and had lived in both Broad Brook and Enfield. She graduated from Ellsworth Memorial High School in June, 1949.
Marilyn worked at East Windsor High School for 34 years as guidance secretary. She loved working with both students and faculty and was well liked in return. She enjoyed traveling and was fortunate to visit Italy (twice), England and Switzerland with her husband Maurice. She also was an avid reader and always had a book in process. Her favorite treat was a hot fudge sundae. Marilyn possessed an extremely close relationship with her children and saw them frequently. She loved them with her whole heart as she also loved her many friends and relatives. She cared for people in general and enjoyed interacting and helping those in need.
Her family will receive family and friends on Thursday, April 29 between 5:00-7:00 p.m. at Bassinger & Dowd Funeral Home, 37 Gardner Street, East Windsor, CT 06088. Mass will be held at Holy Family Church, 23 Simon Road, Enfield, CT 06082 on Friday, April 30, 11:00 a.m. followed by burial at St. Catherine's Cemetery in Broad Brook. Memorial donations may be made to CT Humane Society or Hartford Healthcare At Home Hospice.
