Obituary for Joseph R. "Joe" Fecteau

Joseph Raoul Gaetan Fecteau, 89, of Manchester, Connecticut, passed away peacefully on May 15, 2021, surrounded by his loving family. He was predeceased by his beloved wife of 58 years, Marilyn (Essex) Fecteau, and his son, Matthew Fecteau. Joe was born on August 29, 1931 in Pawtucket, Rhode Island, one of four sons of Raoul and Christiana (LaFortune) Fecteau. He was an aircraft mechanic in the US Air Force and served honorably in the Korean War. Upon leaving the Air Force he moved to Connecticut and worked at ABA Tool and Die in Manchester until his retirement. Joe lived most of his life in Rockville, Connecticut before moving to Manchester in 2016. He coached Little League when his boys were young, was an avid bridge player and enjoyed many happy hours playing pool with his sons, friends and at the American Poolplayers Association league in Manchester. He was a great sports fan and enjoyed watching the Boston Red Sox, the Boston Bruins and the New England Patriots. He was a devoted family man and loved spending time with his children and grandchildren. He was a devout Catholic and attended St. Bernard’s Church in Rockville for all of his adult life. He is survived by his children, David Fecteau and wife Vivian, of Dhahran, Saudi Arabia, John Fecteau and wife Amanda of Manchester, Connecticut and James Fecteau and wife Rocio, of Medway, Massachusetts. He also leaves behind five grandchildren, Christian and Daniel Fecteau, André and Katelyn Fecteau and Matthew Fecteau. Calling hours will be from 5:00 - 7:00 pm on Thursday, May 20, 2021, at the Burke Fortin Funeral Home, 76 Prospect Street, Rockville, CT 06066. A funeral service will be held the following day on May 21, 2021 at 1:00 pm at St. Bernard’s Church, 25 St. Bernard’s Terrace, Rockville, CT, 06066. Burial will follow at St. Bernard Cemetery.
