Obituary for Kathleen L. O'Connor

Kathleen L. O’Connor, 81, of Vernon, was promoted to glory on Sunday, June 27, 2021. She was at her home surrounded by her family and loved ones. Kathleen was born November 4, 1939, in Kirkland Lake Ontario, Canada. She graduated from Ottawa Civic Nursing School in 1951 where she continued her training and worked for many years. In 1977, she met the love of her life, the late Frederick O’Connor, whom she married in 1978 and became a resident of the United States. She held many nursing positions, such as the VNA and Manchester Memorial Hospital prior to working and retiring from Visiting Angels in Tolland at the age of 75. She was a faithful and longtime parishioner at the Vernon United Methodist Church. Kathleen was a true inspiration, as she helped so many and was a living angel.
Kathleen had two sons; Michael and Gary and two stepsons; Timothy and Mark. She is also survived by her brother, Raymond and his wife Marlene; her sister, Gail; her grandchildren, Rosa and Kristin; many nieces and nephews, and her church family. Aside from her husband Freddy, who passed in 1998, Kathleen was predeceased by her sisters, Mary and Betty; her brothers David and Irving; and her stepson Glen. The family would like to thank Raymond and Marlene for their help and care given to Kathleen in recent years as well as the Visiting Nurses Association Staff, her neighbor Wendy, and her special friends Myrna, Sarah, Allison, Debbie, and Rita. Relatives and friends may join the family on Thursday, July 1, 2021, from 5pm to 8pm at Burke-Fortin Funeral Home, 76 Prospect St, Rockville, CT 06066.
A Celebration of her life will take place on Friday July 2, 2021, at 11am at The Vernon United Methodist Church, Rt. 30, Vernon, CT 06066. Following the service, refreshments will be served in the church Fellowship Hall. A private burial will be held on Friday July 2, 2021, where Kathleen will be buried beside her husband at Grove Hill Cemetery, Vernon, CT.
