Obituary for Ronald George Atwood

Ronald George Atwood, 73, of Tolland passed away Sunday, October 17, 2021 at St. Francis surrounded by his loving family. He was born January 7, 1948 in Willimantic, the son of the late George D. and Yolande J. Atwood. Ronald grew up in Woodstock and made his home in Tolland for close to 50 years. He served in the U.S. Army as a supply sergeant, while stationed in Korea, during the Vietnam War. Ron worked at Whitcraft in Eastford as a Machinist. He enjoyed being a laith operator building specialty jet engine parts. As a member of the Tolland Historical Society he enjoyed taking care of the Benton Homestead, the Jail, and volunteering for the annual Antique Show. He spent endless hours out in his garage working on the cars of friends, family, and neighbors. He will be most remembered for his infectious laugh and warm smile.
He is survived by his two daughters, Laura J. Grassi and her Husband Nicholas Grassi of Tolland and Erin L. Atwood and Brian D. Kelley of Boston. He has 3 beloved grandchildren, Cadyn, Cooper, and Carter Grassi. He leaves behind his 4 siblings Sandra Dupre of Putnam, Geraldine Blanchette of Woodstock, Bruce Atwood of Eastford, and Dale Froehlich also of Woodstock; as well as several nieces and nephews and many great-nieces and nephews. Please join the family from 5 to 7 PM on Friday, October 22, 2021 at the Tolland Memorial Funeral Home, 375 Merrow Rd.(Rte. 195) Tolland, CT 06084. A graveside service will be held at 11 AM on Saturday, October 23, 2021 at Barlow Cemetery in Woodstock, CT.
