Obituary for Ruth (McBride) Griffin

Ruth (McBride) Griffin, 88, formerly of Vernon, beloved wife of the late John Griffin passed away after her courageous battle with cancer on Thursday, December 16, 2021 in the loving arms of her children. She was born April 23, 1933 in Brooklyn, NY, daughter of late William McBride and Dorothy (Valentine) McBride.

She was proudly born in Brooklyn, New York and attended St. Catherine of Sienna School, Our Lady of Mercy Academy, and graduated from Andrew Jackson High School. She received an associate degree from Manchester Community College and worked for the Vernon Public Schools for over 25 years as a librarian.

She is survived by her children, Elizabeth Griffin, Kathleen Griffin-Daley (Joseph) and Michael Griffin (Kelly and sons Rowan and Torrey). In addition, her beloved grandchildren, Erin Gouldsbrough (Sam), Chelsea Gouldsbrough (Tom), Caitlin Daley and Matthew Daley and her great-grandchildren, Ava, Everett, Isla, and Eden. Her brother, William McBride Jr. (Dorothy) and many loving nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends. She was also predeceased by her sister, Dorothy (McBride) Hart (Tony).

Ruth was beloved by her children, family, and friends because of her loving and caring personality. Her children were blessed and could not have asked for a better Mother. She loved to dance; it didn’t matter where. If there was music playing, she would just get up and dance away even if she was the only one dancing! She also enjoyed the beach, hiking, tennis, and skiing and was an avid reader. For over 60 years, she was a parishioner of St. Bernard’s Church in Rockville. Heaven has truly gained a new angel; she was an angel on earth and is now an angel in Heaven dancing away with her beloved John for eternity.

A visitation for family and friends will be held at Burke-Fortin Funeral Home, 76 Prospect St., Rockville on Monday, December 20th from 5 to 7 pm. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Tuesday, December 21st at 11 am at St. Bernard’s Church, 25 St. Bernard Terrace, Rockville CT. Burial will follow at St. Bernard’s Cemetery, Rockville.
