Obituary for Robert Paul De Young

Robert Paul De Young, 81 of Ellington and loving husband of Linda (Westwood) De Young passed away surrounded by his loving family at his bedside on Friday, Aug. 5, 2022. He was born March 18, 1941 in Uxbridge, MA to the late Paul and Agnes (O’Day) De Young. He was a devout catholic and parishioner along with his wife for over 42 years of St. Bernard’s Church in Rockville. He along with his wife were directors of the R.C.I.A program for 25 years at St. Bernard’s. He retired from Haldane Associates as a career coach. He also worked for Martin Marietta. Above all, his family was the most important thing. He had a passion for animals, cooking, gardening and Disney. He also loved musical theater and the lake life and his neighbors. He is also survived by his children, Catherine De Young and her husband, Damian Packer, Deborah Lennon and her husband Thomas, Dawne Goodwin and her husband, Jeffrey, Heather Evans, and his niece who was like a daughter, Jeannette Westwood; his sister Joan Mulligan and his brother, Daniel De Young and his wife, Lori; his grandchildren, Brendan Goodwin, Aiden Goodwin, Trinity Lennon and Evan Packer. He is also survived by several nieces and nephews. He leaves behind his former wife, Mary De Young. He also leaves behind his loving puppy Chloe. He was predeceased by a son, Paul De Young. Relatives and friends are welcome to join the family from 4-7 p.m. Wed., Aug. 10, 2022 at the Burke-Fortin Funeral Home, 76 Prospect Street, Rockville. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00 a.m., Thurs., Aug. 11, 2022 at St. Bernard’s Church, 25 St. Bernard’s Terrace, Rockville. Burial will follow at St. Bernard’s Cemetery, Rockville. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to the Ellington Volunteer Ambulance Corps, 41 Maple Street, Ellington, CT 06029 or the Visiting Nurses Hospice Program, 8 Keynote Dr. Vernon, CT 06066
