Obituary for Peter E. "Pete" DeCarli Sr.

Peter (Pete) Ernest DeCarli, 83, of Coventry, passed away peacefully with his wife and family by his side on September 2, 2022, at Manchester Memorial Hospital.

Peter was born on November 30, 1938 at Rockville General Hospital and lived in Coventry his entire life. He worked his way up from pushing a broom to Plant Manager at Lydall and Foulds Paper Mill. Peter retired in 1997 as a Facilities Plant Engineer at the UCONN Storrs campus. He was an active member of the Coventry Volunteer Fire Dept. and the Manchester Coon and Fox Club for many years
.
For over 30 years his greatest joy was spending time with family and friends at an oceanfront cottage in Quonnie, Rhode Island. He especially enjoyed surfcasting for stripers and blues, walks on the beach, collecting sea glass, watching the waves and spectacular sunrises from his spot on the porch, sharing countless stories, and delicious dinners. All of these things meant the world to him. He was reminiscing about fishing at Quonnie up to the last days of his life. Pete enjoyed watching UCONN Women’s basketball, picking NFL game winners with his wife El, trout fishing at Times Farm Camp, Dunkin’ iced coffees, casino trips and storytelling. He also enjoyed his hunting trips to Vermont and playing golf at Twin Hills Country Club where he was a member for many years.

Peter is survived by his loving wife of 63 years, El “Sam” DeCarli; his brothers Francis DeCarli and his wife, Joan of Coventry, and Paul DeCarli and his wife, Jody of Coventry; his brother-in-law Elverne Norman Harmsen, Jr. of Vernon; many special nieces and nephews including Sheila and Vaughn Numrych of Tolland; and many dear friends. He leaves his children and their spouses who Peter adored; son Peter E. DeCarli, Jr. and his wife, Patty of Coventry, daughter Debra L. Myette and her husband, Ray of Bolton and daughter Joan Langdo and her husband, Gary of Tolland. Peter also leaves his loving grandchildren, Peter DeCarli, III of Jacksonville, Florida, Mary DeCarli of Jacksonville, Florida, Emery Pelletier and her husband, Dave of Enfield, Natalie Drouillard and her husband, Jason of Port Orchard, Washington, Jessica McCarthy and her husband, Ryan of Vernon, Ryan Bell and his wife, Cami of Hunterville, North Carolina and, Stacey Bell of New York City; as well as his “Little Ones”; his four great-grandchildren; Evan Bell, Hudson Drouillard, Parker Bell, and Jaxson Pelletier. Peter was predeceased by his sisters, Dale Goodchild, and Beverly Numrych.
A celebration of Peter’s life will be private at the convenience of the family. The family would like to thank the Coventry Volunteer Fire Dept. for all their assistance over the past few years and the Intensive Care Unit staff at Manchester Memorial Hospital for such wonderful care.
