Obituary for Donna S. Jones

Donna Suzanne Jones, 74, passed away peacefully in her home surrounded by her family on September 27, 2022. Donna was born May 28, 1948 in South Hope Maine to the late Sanford and Goldie Jones.

Donna was a loving mother, grandmother and sister. She was fiercely loyal to lifelong and new friends alike. She was always eager to lend a hand and advocate for those in need.

Admirably outgoing during her time at Coventry High School, Donna was captain of both the basketball and majorettes teams. She was a successful student, queen of her junior prom, and involved in dance with her sisters. This determination continued when Donna earned an undergraduate and masters degree while raising three children on her own, winning many awards along the way.

After a brief stint working in corporate America, Donna was proud to transition into her career at UConn. She enjoyed the energy of being on campus, surrounded by activities, students and colleagues. She remained active with her high school community, working on the reunion committee and the Coventry Scholarship Foundation Dollars for Scholars.

With a creative talent, Donna wrote songs and played both the piano and guitar. She shared her passion for music by teaching her grandchildren to dance and sing. She loved crocheting blankets and clothes for each new addition to the family. She also enjoyed reading, traveling, gardening and especially spending time with friends.

Throughout her life, Donna demonstrated exactly what it meant to be a strong and independent woman. Being a cheerleader for her friends and family, she encouraged everyone to pursue their passions. The conversation was always lively when she was around. Her energy was contagious and her laugh filled the hearts of everyone around her.

With a boldness to live life her own way, Donna didn’t let anyone get in the way of her happiness.
