Obituary for Gary Hallwood

Gary “Skip” “Hollywood” Hallwood, 79, of Vernon,CT, passed away on 10/18/22. “Skip” was born at 2:18AM on 5/24/43 at Manchester Memorial Hospital to Ralph and Muriel Hallwood. After graduating from Ellington High School in 1961, he attended Dean College in Franklin, MA. After college he was a sales representative for RCA and GE, and started his own LLC, Gary Hallwood Associates in 1989. He enjoyed his work but most loved spending time with his family, friends, and animals. Skip was a wonderful and devoted father, partner, and friend. He always taught us to have a firm handshake and supported us all throughout the many accomplishments and difficulties of our lives. When Skip wasn't working, he could be found at the Ty-Rods Auto Club meticulously restoring his latest Hot Rod. “Hollywood”, as he was known in the car community, was one of the founding members of the club (1959) and dedicated much of his time ensuring that the longest continually running car club in CT remained in existence. He was an even-tempered peace keeper who also enjoyed Cape Cod, the Red Sox, caring for his pets, and of course his sweet treats. Skip was predeceased by his parents, Ralph and Muriel Hallwood and his beloved Golden Retriever, Bella (6/15/22). He is survived by his soul mate and partner of 21 years, Cindy Bruce, children, Nicole Hallwood, Amy Hallwood, Brent Mikkelsen and his wife Carol Mikkelsen, and granddaughter, Sage Indigo Bliss Hallwood, and Cindy Bruce’s children, Mike Gorton and Kate Gorton. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made in his honor to St Jude Children’s Research Hospital, Our Companions Animal Sanctuary Inc of Ashford, CT, or the Wounded Warrior Project. Calling hours will be held on 10/23/22 from 2-4PM at Burke Fortin Funeral Home, 76 Prospect St, Rockville, CT A Celebration of Life will follow at 4 p.m. at the funeral home.
