Obituary for Noel Edward Gessay

Born in Rockville, Connecticut on Christmas Day, December 25, 1945, to John and Anna Gessay, Noel Edward Gessay, 76, beloved husband of Susan McKiernan Gessay passed away peacefully on Sunday, October 16th, 2022 with Susan and his beloved dog, Gracie right along his side.

Noel spent his childhood working in his family Sporting Goods Store In Rockville while playing sports. Noel was a friend to many and enjoyed participating and watching sports while attending Rockville High School. Noel and his family were also involved with the St. Bernard Catholic Church Community where he spent many years as an altar boy.

After high school, Noel graduated from Porter and Chester School of Design and Hartford Technical School. Noel's career spanned across 33 years in the Engineering CAAD Department and Utility Services at The Metropolitan District Commission in Hartford. While moving through the ranks within MDC, Noel always held a part time position bartending and working in the restaurant industry. His favortite part time position was his work at Ellington Ridge Country Club. He considered his part time work "his entertainment." He loved talking sports, watching sports and playing sports. His part time work gave him pleasure and provided him with opportunities to meet new people and spend time with his many friends over the years.

While Noel had many friends over his lifetime; his best friend, Susan, was the love of his life. They met at MDC and shared many happy years together. In addition to his wife, Susan, he was a father to three daughters; Marcy, Karen and Kristy. Noel lived his life to the fullest. He was an avid fan of the Red Sox, Patriots and Whalers. Noel also followed UCONN football and basketball.He was a ticket season holder to all three teams and shared his love of the teams with his daughters bringing them to Boston and Hartford to see the teams play. Noel continued to play sports throughout his life including softball, racketball and golf. He was a member of The MDC 25 Year Club, MDC Employees Club, Maple Grove and the Rockville Fish and Game Club where his father, John was a founding member.

After living in Bolton for many years, Noel and Susan spent the last two years of his life in Arizona. He had a very close relationship with his Arizona family which included his brother in-laws and sister in-laws.
Noel leaves his beloved wife, Susan, his three loving daughters and son-in laws; Marcy (Paul) Boilard, Karen (Tim) Bohr, and Dr. Kristy LaPorte (David) to whom he truly loved. He also leaves his grandchildren - Wesley, Cody, Madison, Riley, Alex, Jenna, Jadelynn, Ariana, Maxwell, Zachariah, Nicole, and Alexis, as well as his great grandchildren - Faith, Anastasia and Colton.
Noel also leaves his best friend and brother John and his wife, Sue Gessay, his sister Claire and her husband, Ralph Despathy and many, many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his parents, his brother Paul and sisters Kathy and Jeanne. Noel also leaves many special friends who he cherished and loved deeply.

In lieu of flowers; donations can be made to The Dana Farber Cancer Center, Melanoma Dept - Dr. Ott, Boston, Mass, the Alzheimer’s Association and Hospice Care. The family is so thankful for all of the exceptional care Noel received in Boston and with hospice.

Susan loved Noel deeply and he will be loved through eternity.

Calling hours will be at the Burke-Fortin Funeral Home, Vernon, CT on Monday, November 7th from 4-6 pm and funeral will be Tuesday, November 8th at 11:00 am at St Bernard’s Church, Vernon, CT.
