Obituary for Bernard Michael Mulligan

Bernard “Bernie” Michael Mulligan, 81, of Tolland, died peacefully on Thursday, November 17. Born in Webster, Massachusetts, the son of the late Isabelle (Beauregard) Mulligan and Edward J. Mulligan. He married the love of his life, Roberta Beaudry in 1961, and together they had four children: Jimmy (Gayle) Mulligan, Judy Henzy, Patrick “Ricky” (Gay) Mulligan, and Betsy (Scott) Wilson, as well as nine grandchildren, Sam Henzy, Anna Henzy, Abby (Mark) Eells , Matt Mulligan, Nathan Mulligan, Aidan Mulligan, Colin Mulligan, Tyler Wilson and Colby Wilson, who were his pride and joy. Bernie graduated from Tourtellotte Memorial High School and Central Connecticut State University, and became a dedicated teacher and coach. He was a science teacher at Tolland Middle School for over 30 years, and a coach of both basketball and baseball at Tolland High School. He went on to coach basketball at Manchester Community College, Eastern Connecticut State University, and Western New England College, where he was a mentor to many student-athletes. Bernie loved fishing, playing golf, playing cribbage with his buddies, and his summers on the Cape. Bernie will be remembered by his many cherished loved ones for his wit, sense of humor, and friendship. Bernie was predeceased by his brother, Gerald Mulligan, and his sister, Maureen (Mulligan) Degen. Family reunions with his siblings and the extended Mulligan family provided many cherished memories for Bernie. Bernie and his family are especially grateful to the staff at Woodlake at Tolland for their kindness and compassion.
