Obituary for Richard D. Tutko

Richard D. Tutko of Ellington, died on Dec. 21, 2022.

A steady, kind and dedicated family man, his many talents included woodworking, small-engine repair, and gardening, and he could fix just about anything. He loved to putter in his workshop and enjoyed fishing, canoeing, family vacations by the water, and travels with his late wife, Irene. Rick was born Jan. 1, 1931, in New Britain to the late Elizabeth V. Tutko Mills. From New Britain High School, he joined the U.S. Army, then studied mechanical engineering at the University of Connecticut. He worked for 37 years at Pratt & Whitney and United Technologies, and was a member of St. Joseph Church in Rockville.

Irene M. Tutko, his beloved wife of 65 years, died in 2020. Their survivors include their children, Nancy Tutko (Whit Hanschka), Daniel Tutko, Susan Greene, Michael Tutko (Diane Tutko), and Margaret Hildreth; grandchildren Amy Greene, Michael Tutko, Mitchell Hildreth (Kristen Hildreth), Julia Powers, Eli Hanschka, Carter Hildreth, Lena Hanschka, and Lily Hildreth; and a great-grandchild. His family includes his sister Barbara Jiantonio (James), Sharon Sirois, Gloria Lessig, Harold Mills, Patricia Mills, Ronald Mills (Josephine). He was predeceased by his siblings Thomas Mills, Joanne Mills, and Andrew Tutko.
