Obituary for Andrew J. "Mickey" Ashland

Andrew (Mickey) Ashland, 99, passed away December 27, 2022, peacefully at home with his family by his side. Born in Hartford, CT on August 20, 1923, he was a lifelong resident of Rockville. He graduated from Rockville High where he proudly served as president of the senior class while owning a gas station. Mickey was an entrepreneur, with business ventures ranging from a drive-in eatery, various real estate holdings, to Ramblers. He entered the automobile business in 1944 and retired in 1984. Mickey had a lifelong love affair with racehorses, and it brought him a lot of pleasure.
Mickey was predeceased by his wife Helen in 2017. Helen was his high school sweetheart and wife of sixty-nine years. They loved traveling and visited all fifty states. Mickey and Helen enjoyed many summer vacations with their family in Seabrook Beach, NH eventually building their own dream cottage. He is survived by his daughter Kathy Ahearn and her husband Peter, sons-in-law Robert Slajda and Paul Strattner, sisters-in-law Rosie Prichard and Bunny Loalbo and brother-in-law Richard Loalbo and wife Sue.
He was predeceased by his brother Edward Ashland and sister Eleanor Friedrick, daughters Gail Slajda and Deborah Strattner. He leaves five grandchildren Matthew Slajda and his wife Maria, Michelle Slajda, Sierra and her wife Desiree, Andrew Strattner and Christopher Ahearn: two great grandchildren Abigail and Isabel Slajda and thirteen nieces and eleven nephews.
Relatives and friends may join the family on Friday, January 13, 2023 between 4pm-7pm at the Burke-Fortin Funeral Home, 76 Prospect Street, Rockville, CT. A Church Service will be held on Saturday, January 14, 2023 at 11am at Union Church, 3 Elm Street, Vernon, CT. Burial will follow at St. Bernard Cemetery in Vernon.
