Obituary for Walter E. Blake Jr.

Walter Edward Blake, Jr., 85, of Fort Pierce, FL and West Hartford, CT, passed away peacefully, with his family by his side, on December 13, 2022.

He was born in Hartford, CT on August 19, 1937, to Walter E. Blake, Sr. and Catherine Harrington Blake who predeceased him. Walter is survived by his three children, Jonathan E. Blake of Hartford, CT, Amy (Blake) and Donald Hornish of Pittsburgh, PA, Matthew and Rebecca (Kollar) Blake of Millis, MA, his sister Kathleen (Blake) Grinter and many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his sister Loretta (Blake) Fish. "Pop" was also the very proud grandfather to Blake C. Hornish, Shane D. Hornish and Lauren M. Blake.

He spent his summer youth growing up on his grandparents' tobacco farm in Broad Brook, CT and later years at Black Point Beach Club, Niantic, CT. Walter graduated from Weaver High School, Fairfield University, and the University of Hartford and received a double Master's in Education. He was a Mathematics teacher at Bulkeley High School, Hartford CT, for many years. He was the West Hartford Hockey Commissioner, a proud member of the Elks Club, Irish American Home of Glastonbury, CT, and Knights of Columbus. He retired in Fort Pierce, FL where he was an avid golfer, enjoyed many friends and especially the warm weather. He was a 2nd generation Irishman and traveled to Ireland over 10 times where he played multiple rounds of golf. His Irish heritage was very important to him, and he was very proud to celebrate it with friends and family. He will be best remembered not only for the love of his family but his great sense of humor and huge laugh that could fill up a room.

We would like to thank the staff and community of Watercrest Senior Living, Treasure Coast Hospice and Gator Trace Golf Club for all the love, care and support they showed our father.
